The Model Student Code of Conduct is intended to assist your district in developing and maintaining your local Student Code of Conduct, mandated by Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code. The Model addresses the legal requirements of student codes of conduct in general and offers suggestions you may wish to include in your local Student Code of Conduct. It attempts to organize and harmonize the provisions of the law into a framework that, with fine-tuning by individual districts, can serve to communicate to students, parents, school staff, and the community exactly what is expected of students and how misconduct will be handled.
Scheduled revision
Usually TASB Policy Service only updates the Model Student Code of Conduct every other year, following regular sessions of the Texas Legislature. However, in spring 2012 we have issued a revision of the Model Student Code of Conduct to incorporate legislative bills that are effective with the 2012–2013 school year.
Distribution
The Model is made available in myTASB. Instructions on accessing the Model were e-mailed to superintendents, superintendents' secretaries, and policy contacts on March 20, 2012.
