Leadership TASB History

In July 1991, then TASB Board President Patti Clapp appointed an advisory committee composed of school board trustees from around the state to develop and recommend a leadership training program. This program would assist school board trustees beyond the fundamental reach of their current training through the Texas Association of School Boards. The advisory committee members were reappointed and expanded by TASB Board President Amber Yeary. Patti Clapp served as an ex-officio member of the committee.

After the first meeting at the 1991 TASB/TASA Joint Annual Convention in Houston, the advisory committee held three weekend meetings to develop the concept and direction of Leadership TASB. Initial discussion centered on the program's mission to ensure effective school governance and progressed to program goals, outcomes and design.

The following is the list of trustees who gave their time and energy to ensure the success of this program:

  • Harry Byrd - Tomball ISD
