Senate Bill 1638 of the 82nd Regular Legislative session added emergency contact information to the list of personal information employees can choose to withhold from the public. Other information employees may choose to keep private includes home address, phone number (i.e., home and mobile), personal e-mail, Social Security number, and information that would reveal whether they have family members.
SB 1638 became effective June 19, 2011. As a result, each employee should be given an opportunity to update their written choice to withhold personal information as soon as possible. If an updated form is not on file, the information is subject to release under the Public Information Act. A Sample Authorization for Release/Closure of Personal Information
included in the HR Library, can be used to document new and current employees’ choices to keep information private. The library also includes information on Personnel Records—Access and Confidentiality
.
