Membership fees for HR Services and DataCentral have not increased for three years and will remain the same for next year. HR Academy. The annual TASB/TASPA HR Academy will be held on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at the Marriott La Frontera Hotel in Round Rock. HR Academy is widely regarded as the best and most comprehensive training event of the year for new HR administrators. Experienced HR leaders in Texas schools, TASB HR consultants, and school attorneys will present information on HR department roles, certification and No Child Left Behind, legal issues in personnel, recruiting and hiring, compensation and benefits, leaves and absences, and personnel records. Participants receive valuable reference material on all of these topics and will have opportunities to meet and network with other HR professionals. Register online by Oct. 7 to take advantage of the discounted registration rate.
Staffing Controls for Public Schools. Two workshops are scheduled for the fall to teach participants to objectively evaluate staffing practices. Richard Lane, TASB staffing consultant since 2003, will show participants how to analyze staff and identify opportunities to reduce and avoid costs, justify necessary resources, or rebalance staff within the district. Workshops will be held at TASB in Austin on Sept. 9 and Oct. 7.
For the first time ever, our annual convention will be held at the Austin Convention Center. There will be plenty of sessions of interest to HR administrators, eight of which will be presented by TASB HR Services consultants. The topics include hiring and firing, staffing, compensation, and employee engagement. We will also have an exhibit booth in the TASA/TASB Marketplace.
