HR Services welcomes Melva Cardenas, new TASPA executive director

TASPA Executive Director Melva CardenasTASB HR Services has long been a close partner with the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators (TASPA) to support the needs of school HR leaders. We are pleased to extend a warm welcome to Melva Cardenas, TASPA’s new executive director. Cardenas started at TASPA on Jan. 19 and brings valuable experience and knowledge to her new job, having worked as the chief human resource officer in Round Rock and Midland ISDs and most recently as the director of educator credentialing at the Texas Education Agency. She has also served as a teacher and a campus principal during her 32-year career in public education. We look forward to continued collaboration with TASPA under Melva’s leadership.

New part-time educator agreement added to the HR Library

Though only full-time teachers are entitled to employment contracts, many districts want to provide some type of written employment agreement to their part-time teachers as well. TASB Legal Services has developed a new model Part-Time Educator Agreement This link opens in a new window. for the HR Library (myTASB login required). The TASB Model Employment Contracts (probationary, term, and continuing) have also been updated with only minor changes and are now available there.

The 2009–10 District Personnel Report is available online

The 2009–10 District Personnel Report, the third in our annual TASB/TASA Salaries and Wages in Texas Public Schools survey series, was posted in the HR Library on Jan. 20. Our members can access pay information on hundreds of job titles in administration, professional support services, and operations. Our survey participation dropped this year so we are especially grateful to all of you who took the time to provide your data.
