Salary Survey deadline extended to Nov. 6

Participation has dropped in our annual district personnel and extra-duty stipend survey of Texas school pay practices so we have extended the deadline to encourage districts to submit their data. Differentiated Compensation in Education Symposium—
Nov. 9 and 10

The Houston Independent School District, The University of Texas System Institute for Public School Initiatives, and Battelle for Kids will host the second annual Differentiated Compensation in Education Symposium on Nov. 9–10, 2009, at the Marriott Houston West Loop. This day-and-a-half symposium explores critical issues, practical applications, and lessons learned by districts in Texas and around the nation that are developing and implementing new strategic compensation methods for teachers. Staffing Controls for Public Schools—Jan. 28

Our new workshop on Staffing Controls for Public Schools will be taught by Richard Lane, TASB staffing consultant. The first workshop is sold out but there is still time to register for the second workshop on Jan. 28.

What we’re up to these days

This fall, HR Services consultants have been working with member districts to provide the following localized consulting services to support district HR goals: seven employee opinion surveys; two customized employee handbooks; seven new pay system design and installation projects; 15 pay system review and update projects; 12 district staffing review projects; and one in-district training event.
