TASB’s Legal Division offers guidance on school closings, employee absences during pandemics 

TASB’s Legal Division has prepared a list of frequently asked questions This link opens in a new window. to provide guidance to district leaders on paying idled employees during school closings for the flu pandemic. The guidance covers mandatory and permissive pay practices for contract, exempt noncontract, and nonexempt employees and includes useful information about the content of board resolutions and changes to instructional calendars.


2009–10 Model Employee Handbook
on its way to districts soon

HR Services’ Model Employee Handbook template for the 2009–10 school year will be posted on line for HR Services members in mid-May. The handbook section on employee leaves has been updated to reflect the changes to Family and Medical Leave Act rules. Members can log in to myTASB and download the handbook to an editable Microsoft Word document that can be quickly customized by district administrators. The Model Employee Handbook correlates with the TASB Policy Service code system for easy reference. Should new legislation affecting handbook content be enacted, an update will be issued in July.

The school year and the Texas Legislature are winding down
