William Smith, Regions 8 and 10
William Smith served in Greenville ISD for 35 years, including five as its Superintendent. Smith also served as the district's Assistant Superintendent for Administration, where he handled all matters related to personnel and human resources. He had been in that position since 1996 and previously was Assistant Superintendent for Operations (1989-1996) and Greenville Middle School Principal (1982-89).
He also served as Assistant Principal at the old Junior High (1981-82), Principal at Austin Elementary (1978-1981) and a counselor/teacher (1971-1978) at Greenville High School.
His wife, Cheryl, is a second grade teacher at Bowie Elementary. He has two children and has won many local education and civic awards, including Most Worthy Citizen (1996), the PTA Lion Heart Award (1996), the Texas Life PTA Member Award (1980) and the Greenville ISD Key Communicator Award (1988).
