Martinez served as superintendent for 10 years in Ft. Davis, Sonora, Alpine, and Presidio. He also was a principal and teacher before coming to TASB Field Services in July 2003. He was voted Region 18 High School Principal of the Year for 1991-92.

Other honors include participation in the Lamar University Superintendent Academy and Oxford International Round Table of the Superintendency and Principalship in summer of 2000.

An Alpine resident, Martinez earned his bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University, master's degree from East Texas State University, and his Superintendent’s Certificate Requirement from East Texas State University.
