About TASB
Who are we?
The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) is a voluntary, nonprofit, statewide education association that serves and represents local Texas school boards. TASB was established in 1949 with the following goals in mind:
- To share information through publications and training to help Texas school board members serve their communities more effectively
- To speak with a unified voice to decision makers to chart the best future for Texas public schools
TASB keeps an eye on developments that could affect your school
district. We monitor the Texas Legislature and State Board of Education to keep you posted on even the most minor changes in education law, and we are present at national events and meetings, such as those sponsored by the National School Boards Association, to stay abreast of education issues. Our seminars help you strengthen your leadership and understand your duties, and our many other programs are designed to help in guiding your schools toward excellence.
Who are our members?
Every school board in Texas has elected to be a member of TASB. Our membership also includes regional education service centers, community colleges, county appraisal districts, and education cooperatives. The Association represents the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state (more than 7,000) who preside over combined expenditures of more than $38 billion annually, employ more than 580,000 people, and serve more than 4.4 million students.
What do our members receive?
TASB members have access to a wide variety of services, training, publications, information, products, and support, all of which are described in this catalog.
Our basic services include advocacy, board training, legal assistance, an informative magazine, and other publications.
Although many of our services are free for members, others are priced separately so that school districts can pay for services only as needed. This helps to keep the cost of membership as low as possible. For dues information, call 800.580.8272.
