NOTE: Badges needed for entry to all convention activities can be picked up at registration, Exhibit Halls B/C, Level 1. Media should go to booth marked “Presenters” to sign in and get a badge.
New to the exhibit hall this year is the Digital Learning Pavilion, an interactive look at a 21st century classroom (open Friday and Saturday.) The exhibit hall features more than 400 vendors sharing products and services to assist school districts. Other convention highlights include:
October 2, Friday
- Marc Prensky, 1 p.m., CEO of Games2train, motivating “digital natives”
- Alan November, 4 p.m., improving education through technology (Announcement of Outstanding School Board in same session.)
October 3, Saturday
- Alfred Quinones-Hinojosa, 10:30 a.m., a journey from migrant worker to surgeon (Announcement of Superintendent of the Year in same session.)
- Mike Resnick and Bruce Hunter, 1:30 p.m., federal education issues
- Robert Scott, 3:30 p.m., update on the state’s public schools from the Texas Education Agency
October 4, Sunday
- Debbie Allen, 9 a.m., reaching students through the performing arts (Presentation of Key Communicator in same session.)
In addition, more than 200 breakout sessions will focus on education trends, issues, and innovative programs in the public school arena. This convention is the largest training event of its kind for Texas public school board members and administrators.
