Casas Reelected to Statewide Association Board

(Austin) – The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has reelected The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has reelected Gloria Santillan Casas of La Feria ISD to a three-year term on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 1A.

Casas joined the La Feria ISD Board in 1994 and has served as president and vice-president. She was elected to the TASB Board in September 2004.  A Leadership TASB graduate and Master Trustee, she has served as Region 1 Representative on the TASB Legislative dvisory Council.

She is currently associated with Workforce Solutions Cameron as a Rural Business and Economic Development Specialist. In this role she manages a mobile resources unit to assist ob seekers, business, and industry by increasing services and communication to rural and underserved areas in Cameron County. She works jointly with local city government, businesses, school districts, churches, community leaders, and social services agencies to promote economic development. For over 40 years she has been involved in developing, organizing, implementing and managing a variety of innovative programs that addresses women’s health care, career development, community development, and educational programs. 

Casas is a graduate of Howard Payne University and the Dale Carnegie Leadership program, and was the recipient of the Dale Carnegie Course Highest Award for Achievement for the class of 2002.  The Cameron County Commissioner Courts officially recognized her for countless hours of volunteer services.  She has served in leadership positions in the La Feria Parental Awareness League, La Feria Family Learning Center Committee, Cameron County Mental Health Task Force and the Valley Primary Care Healthy Start Consortium.  Her volunteer services included being a childbirth educator, high school health occupation mentor, "Madrina" for the Rio Grande Valley Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and a past member of the steering committee for Monica’s House for abused children.    In 2006, Casas served as a volunteer clinic manager for Guadalupe Health Clinic, a clinic that provides free healthcare to people not eligible
for healthcare assistances. 

TASB is a nonprofit organization established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 4.7 million public school students.
