Smelley Elected to Statewide Association Board

(Austin) – The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has elected Steve Smelley of Fort Bend ISD to a three-year term on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 4G.
Smelley was a trustee for Fort Bend ISD from 1997 to 2004 and was re-elected to the board in 2006. During his first tenure, he held the positions of president, vice-president, and secretary and served on numerous board committees. He is currently vice-president of the board.
Smelley, who works in sales for Daktronics, is a graduate of Westchester High School. He attended the University of Houston where he earned a bachelor of science in business management. Active in the Sugar Land Rotary Club, Smelley served as president from 1999 to 2000 and as assistant district governor from 2000 to 2001.
TASB is a nonprofit organization established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 4.6 million public school students.
