Karen Ellis
Region 10A
Karen Ellis was elected to the Richardson ISD (RISD) Board in 1999. She has served the board as secretary, treasurer and vice-president. Ellis recently retired from the wholesale apparel industry after 18 years as an apparel representative and model. A native of Vermont she attended the University of North Texas. Active in her community, she has served as PTA president at every public school level and on the RISD Council of PTAs, and was awarded both a Texas PTA Life Membership and Extended Service Award. She has served as curriculum advisor and mentor for Leadership Richardson and president of its advisory board. She is currently president of the Richardson East Rotary Club and an active member of The Heights Baptist Church.
A graduate of Leadership TASB, Ellis received Master Trustee certification in 2001. She has served on TASB’s Legislative Advisory Council, as a delegate to the Delegate Assembly, and participated in panels or presented at major TASB events. An enthusiastic member of the School Board Advocacy Network, she testified before various House committees numerous times. She serves on the executive board of the North Texas Area Association of School Boards.
